Bark Gargoyles

Look what I found on the pavement - a bark gargoyle.
Flip it over, and lo behold two bark gargoyles.

Black pen and then ye olde Photoshoppe.
ArtsWords theme is Red this week, so I'm sending over this beautiful but viscious (so says I) little abstract of "nature red in tooth and claw".

Illustration Friday: Spring

nature trail

Above, a picture which I hope conveys something of Spring's renewals - of buds bursting through the ground - the timeless cycles of regeneration.
Below, some words are weaved to attempt to express my long held love of the season of Spring, and what is so special about it to me. This can only be done by bringing in that funny old tradition, the Easter egg hunt:

Spring & the Easter egg hunt
Enjoyment: looking for something worth the hunt, some easily visible, some spring into view in passing, some take diligent searching to lead to their discovery. Maybe they remain hidden, and never become found. Magic: the thought that days later you will still come across more, and also the make believe that these treasures were magically there in the first place, not stuck there by your parents. Then the connected hope that you’ll find hidden wonderment wherever you go, at other unexpected places. Also magical is the combination of bright shiny foil colours in amongst green grass and fresh spring flowers – daffodils, violets, primrose and other genial bits of the garden, with the sun bringing it all to life. Spiritual? Well it’s Easter, and although my thoughts aren’t on the resurrection side of things, the association is always there, and certainly reinforced by the burgeoning Spring weather with all its freshness, newness and light. I’ve always had a very special feeling about this time of year, which is guaranteed to hit me at some point or other. The joy of being alive, the joy of Spring, the joy of nature, the joy of sex?, the joy of sunshine, the joy of feeling young (body/mind depending on age – perhaps even very old, a twinge of physical youthfulness), but I still feel something else sometimes that could be a spiritual awareness breaking through. This is a rapture that lies somewhere between Christianity and Paganism.

Entwining and Entangling

Illustration Friday: E is for...
Other E's I shortlisted include Eccentric, Eyeball, Ennui, Erroneus, Evil, Erratic, E bah gum, English, and Enigma. Here instead is something simple and poetic. It's a dance, it's a love story, it's life in a pot.

Small Insect

I am jumping on the insect bandwagon for this week's Illustration Friday topic which is SMALL. I might be thinking back to the A.A.Milne poem about a beetle in a matchbox named Small. But mostly I'm celebrating the new David Attenborough TV series Life in the Undergrowth. The largest beetle in the world will be on tonight! Not sure if it will still count as being small.
