Fabulous bark faces - we have trees that shed like that around here but I've not seen such wonderful gargoyles - lucky you!
nice find. is it a london plane, methinks? so chosen for urban areas as they shed frequently so appear fresh and clean in an otherwise smutty environment!
Yes I think plane - they get cut back all knobbly. I don't know what they look like if left to grow normally.
